HOLIDAY SURVIVAL TIPS!!!!
It is important to remember that the Holidays are a time to be with our loved ones and celebrate our holiday not consume food. Keeping this in mind...Its okay to indulge but it is important to have a game plan so you don't start out the New Year with a guild ridden weight gaining resolution. Start now!1. MAINTAIN YOUR EXERCISE SCHEDULE
Holiday Parties, Holiday Shopping, Cold Winter nights....all inexcusable for missing your workouts. By sticking to your schedule you are making a commitment to your program. Burning the calories should be motivation enough to get to your appointments and gym commitments.
2. PREPARE FOR THE PARTY
If you know you are attending a party that will be serving rich foods...eat lighter the day of the party. Mixed greens, lean protein and vegtables. Drink water before your arrival so that your stomach is hungry and not your mind!
3. CRUISING THE BUFFET TABLE
Before you take a plate and do the buffet hustle..take a minute to see what is being served so you can make informed decisions instead of impulsive decisions. It is okay to offer to bring a healthy dish if you are going to an intimate family member or friends house to celebrate.
4. ALCOHOL 101
Empty Calories. Indulge..but limit your alcohol intake. Sugar Free Beverages are a better choice. Water is an even better choice.
5. PORTION CONTROL
A good way to make sure your portions are in check is to use a dessert or salad plate in lieu of a dinner plate if you are at a party. Less is More!
6. HUNGER PAINS?
Never leave your house hungry. Fuel your body frequently with a combination of high fiber and protein. If you are going power shopping...avoid food courts. Bring healthy snacks with you such as nuts and dried fruit. Stay hydrated!
7. COOKING LIKE A PROFESSIONAL
There are options to making standard holiday food fare healthier. If you would like suggestions as to optional menus or recipes...ask me anytime. There is a wealth of resources available for cooking healthy. Sweet potato pie doesn't have to be dripping in marshmallows to be sweet!
Most importantly..Enjoy the holidays. Try to alleviate your emotional stress by making good choices so you can enjoy the indulgent choices. Be safe, Be on time for your workouts and most important Be Good To Yourselves and your Loved Ones!
